Obituary: V. Jayaraman, senior chartered accountant, head of many social, cultural organisations

Senior chartered accountant V. Jayaraman who was also associated with many social, community and cultural bodies, passed away on May 5

He was born on Sept.5,1945 as the last child of ‘Padmashri’ V. Vaidyasubramanya Iyer ( the past president of The Mylapore Academy) – the ‘Ja’ in his name derived from ‘Navasuja’, which is a landmark in R. A. Puram.

He did his schooling in Ramakrishna Mission School, Mambalam and under-grad studies at Loyola College.
He went on to do chartered accountancy and completed the course standing 6th in the state and  19th at the all India level.
He started his practice in 1969. Apprentices flocked to him because he was a kind– hearted auditor who allotted long study- leave to them.
He served as the director of The Mylapore Academy as its director for 15 years and was its vice- president for 9 years.
Jayaraman steered St.John’s Ambulance Association as its honorary secretary for 27 years.
He was well- versed in Sanskrit as much as he was an authority on tax- laws.
He stopped his CA practice in 2014  to immerse himself in Vedantic studies.
With his elder brother, he created his father’s centenary  Trust that has been  honouring scholars in Vedanta, Upanyasam, Kathakalakshepam and Namasankeertanam.
