At Helen Keller Day event, Clarke School highlights deaf-blindness

On the occasion of the 145th birth anniversary of Helen Keller, the International Day of Deafblindness was observed on June 27 at Clarke School for the Deaf, Mylapore.

The chief guest for the event was M. Lakshmi, IAS, commissioner for the welfare of the differently abled.

.The event featured a skit performed by children with multiple disabilities.

PowerPoint presentations made at tis event highlighted the life of Helen Keller as well as the achievements of Clarke school’s alumni.

The presentations helped to create greater awareness about deafblindness—a disability that often goes unnoticed, with affected children sometimes mistakenly grouped under intellectual disability (M.R.).
