Karpagam Bridge (that runs across the Adyar estuary) connecting Mandavellipakkam and Karpagam Avenue, is a good vantage point to view the water birds at Tholkappia Poonga up close, while also staying out of their way.
This wooden trellised footbridge is used by morning walkers, students and domestic helpers, besides the residents who live on both sides.
It is also a nice place to watch the birds in the water and on shrubs in the Poonga zone.
But the bridge is also misused by some people.
Though it has been renovated recently, with a new look, a fresh coat of paint, surveillance cameras and solar lights, it continues to be a spot for late-night tipplers to consume liquor here. They also urinate here.
The stench on most mornings is unbearable, making it impossible to linger.
People want Pattinapakkam police to act against the boozers.
