Members of Raja Annamalaipuran Residents’ Association (RAPRA) invited Mylapore MLA Dha Velu for a morning walk with them through their streets; the intention was to share local civic issues with the MLA as they walked.
The walk, held on June 7 morning, started at 4th Main Road. About 15 members of RAPRA and the MLA walked through all the important roads of R A Puram discussing the issues faced by the residents.
The issues raised by the residents were
- Retrieval of community hall at 7th Main Road. The residents used to conduct their functions at this hall but all of a sudden, two decades ago this place was sold to a private party, the building was demolished and now it is vacant land.
- At 2nd Main Road, near Billroth Hospital traffic signal, there are two MTC bus shelters next to each other for just couple of buses plying on this route. Residents want the shelter in front of Satyam Apartments to be removed as it creates a traffic jam at the signal.
- Canal Bank Road from Greenways Road end upto Mandaveli MRTS Station is in bad condition with plenty of pot holes.
- Residents requested for frequent painting of speed breakers on 3rd Cross Road near Sangeetha restaurant and two solar blinkers at this busy junction.
- Residents said that the parking lot in front of GCC shopping complex on Third Cross Road is encroached on by autos and hawkers, making it difficult to shoppers to park their vehicles.
RAPRA said that while the MLA has promised quick action on some issues, he intends to address the others after further discussions with officials.
The walk ended with a cup of coffee at Sangeetha restaurant.
- This report is based on details provided by RAPRA.
Definitely will give a modern look to Mandaiveli. There are no good malls around this area . Hope traffic is properly regulated without congestions
