When Ramakrishnan launched a small tiffin space in the heart of Mylapore, he did not expect it to become popular and overflow with customers.
Today, as he and his wife mark 21 years of the food business now based on Adam Street, Mandaveli, they have to manage hungry men and women who queue here after 7 a.m.
The magic of this draw – simple, home-made food that sticks to the basics and does not compromise. And the doors are shut once the day’s preparations are sold out. Nothing extra, no greed on the mind.

Gomathi Saiva Unavagam’s menu is limited – pongal, piping hot idly, vadai – with kichchadi served on and off. , All priced at nominal rates.
The place opens at 7.30 am and shuts after the food runs out.
Sambar podi, milagai podi and condiments are also available for sale. Clients say this stuff is better than the branded ones.
What is the best for a 7.30a.m;. breakfast? Pongal and chutney is the popular vote here.
