Traffic diversion off Tholkappia Poonga continues. Water channel work is on

For a few weeks now, vehicles on Dr D G S Dinakaran Road have had to slow down and negotiate a temporary diversion path at the junction of South Canal Bank Road and Pattinapakkam.

The diversion has been created to allow workers to sink a large water tunnel below the road that links the water bodies on either side of this busy road and is part of the Tholkappia Poonga.

The final stage of a part of the work seems on now but there may be more to be done to create the water channel.

This zone is part of the Adyar river’s estuary and after the Poonga was recreated and restored from a dump yard and water, which gathers here when it rains and water from the sea that flows in and out, has given the Poonga a natural feel.

The channel is part of development work that has been on at this campus for some months now.
