Senior architect and an activist on public issues related to heritage, architecture and consumer rights, Tara Murali, passed away late on July 26. She was a resident of J. J. Road, Alwarpet.
She was 75 years old and was ailing for some time.
Tara was the wife of N. Murali, a director of The Hindu group and president of The Music Academy.
She was a student of Sacred Heart School, Church Park, of Stella Maris College and of School of Architecture and Planning (SAP), Chennai.
She practised as an architect for over four decades.
Tara was an activist in many fora; mainly on the city’s heritage issues where she was at the lead in campaigns to conserve the core blocks of the headquarters of the TN Police on the Marina and the famed Queen Mary’s College.
She was also a trustee of Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group ( CAG).
Tara was also president of the TN Table Tennis Assn. and headed a TT players’ welfare body..
A note in The Hindu said – the cremation will be at the Besant Nagar crematorium on Monday (July 28, 2025).
