Work on creating an underground water channel between the eastern and western water bodies of Tholkappia Poonga is still going on, on D G S Dinakaran Road, near the traffic signals junction in Pattinapakkam.
The work on the west side is over; it has been on for some days on the east side.
The pavement here was flattened to create temporary drive way for vehicles which now have to take a sharp curve on both sides of the road.
The channel, a large one, will allow water to flow in and out of these two bodies which are fed by rain and the sea.
While the west water body is home to lots of birds, much of the other water body remains polluted, caused by trash dumped by residents of Srinivasapuram.
