Alwarpet flyover is now ‘two-way’ traffic system.
The system has been operational from early Monday, August 11 morning.
Traffic Police had created two lanes using plastic barriers to streamline this system. They hope the new arrangements will cut the pressure at the Samco restaurant – Kauvery Hospital traffic junction.
Hence, vehicles from the R. A. Puram zone headed towards Music Academy side may well move quicker by using the flyover and landing in the Narada Gana Sabha zone, avoiding the Kauvery Hospital traffic lights.
However, regular motorists say that vehicles headed towards R A Puram and Adyar from the Alwarpet side pile up on the flyover at peak hour times because of the Dr Ranga Road traffic signals junction which handles traffic movement from three sides.

This is such a narrow bridge and making it two way is not a good arrangement. Can result on lot of accidents. One is not sure if the bridge is tested for the load knit when vehicles pile up on it.
