Citizens who value the Marina beach are angry at what the contractors of GCC have done the past 48 hours in Pattinapakkam.
Lorryloads of debris and construction waste have been dumped from the San Thome High Road end to the seafront end to enable trucks carrying images of lord Vinayaka here to be immersed in the sea,
The Pattinapakkam Marina zone is one of the designated points for the immersion.
Over the years, GCC and the local police have converted this Marina zone into a wholly barricaded stone-laid pathway on the sands to facilitate what is a 12-hour process.
No effort is made to clear the dumped debris. Urbaser Sumeet staff are deployed in dozens to clear any waste that is washed up on the shore.
Neither the local MLA, Dha Velu of the DMK nor the local area councillor, Geetha Murali of the DMK, has made efforts to suggest alternate ways for this immersion job.
