Madras Boat Club rowers win trophy in men’s overall category: 84th edition of Madras-Colombo Regatta

The 84th edition of the Madras-Colombo Regatta concluded on July 19 in spectacular fashion at the Madras Boat Club (MBC) in R. A. Puram, with the men in yellow from MBC finishing ahead on the points table after a series of tightly fought races.

Held on the Adyar River, the regatta brought together rowing talent and a century-old spirit of cross-border camaraderie, reaffirming its place as one of the most historic rowing events in South Asia.

Overall championship results: • The Deepam Trophy (men’s overall) was won by Madras Boat Club • The Adyar Trophy (women’s overall) was retained by Colombo Rowing Club.

Notable race victories included: • Men’s Fours: MBC team comprising Jothi Pandi, Naveen, Praveen, Prashanth, coxed by Sanjay Gandhi • Men’s Single Scull: Aryadev from MBC

• Women’s Pair: CRC team comprising Anithra Fernando and Binuri Gunawardena • Women’s Coxed Fours: MBC team comprising Niranjanaa Devi, Sumana N, Upadhrithi B, Sai Yaazhini coxed by Sanjay Gandhi

Standout moments came from the young rowers like Logesh, Jothi Pandi and Naveen who won all the events they participated in.

The chief guest for the finale was G .L. Gnanatheva, minister (commercial) , Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner’s Office, Chennai.

The day concluded with the traditional Regatta Ball, held on the lawns of the Madras Boat Club—a cherished custom that brought together members of both clubs
