Outside TASMAC’s ‘Elite’ store in R. A. Puram, push cart serves as ‘open air’ bar. Brawls happen after dusk

TASMAC’S Elite shop on R. A. Puram’s Second Main Road draws huge crowd for it is the only liquor store of its kind in this part of the city.
But in recent times, residents of this zone say that the area outside the store gate witnesses brawls and loud conversations.
And a space of a closed store nearby is now an ‘open air’ bar where people use an abandoned push cart to mix drinks and consumer beer, all through the day.
“Vehicles are parked haphazardly along this roadside resulting in obstruction to smooth flow of vehicular traffic and blocking entry to residences,” said a senior citizen who mailed a note to Mylapore Times and wanted to be anonymous.
Complaints to GCC and Police have not evoked and positive response, the senior added. ‘In fact, police hardly patrol this area and so drunk men have a field day’, the writer said.
Last week, around noon, a group of office-going people were seen standing and drinking on the pavement using an empty cart as a table top.

  1. Yes. The place has two doctos’ establishments near by. Next to Dr.A.V.Srinivasan’s clinic where many elderly frequent. The tranquil environment has been destroyed for sure. It is frightening to go for a walk after 9:00 PM.
