East and South Mada Streets around Sri Kapali Temple have come alive, as hawkers sell hard for the Vinayaka Chathurthi festival to be celebrated on August 28.
But prices are stiff, as a round of the streets in Tuesday evening revealed.

Thoranams were selling at Rs.30 for a set of two. A small pack of fresh flowers sold at Rs.50.
Images of Vinayaka, clay ones, sold at Rs.100 – 125. The fancy, tall ones sold at Rs.3,000. Some are brightly painted and these are from Mumbai and Kolkatta, said one hawker.
Fruits are also on sale by the street side. Prices stiff though bargains do work.
