A Vinayaka Chathurthi tradition that this Dr Ranga Road family practices

The family of Thangavel and Nagammal, residents of Dr Ranga Lane, Mylapore has been following
a simple tradition associated with Vinayaka Chathurthi.
They set up a temporary hawker stall, spread out fresh fruits, vegetables and thoranams and rows of simple clay Vinayaka images, all for sale.
“We are not in this business. We carry on what our previous generations did on Vinayaka Chathurthi day,” said Nagammal. She could not explain why and how this practice started decades ago, as they claim.
Through the festival day, the duo’s family members took turns to manage the stall which was wound up at dusk.
