MLA says work on Nageaswara Rao Park restoration will begin this weekend

State minister K N Nehru will inaugurate the civic project to restore Nageswara Rao Park in Luz. This will take place on work on Friday morning, said Mylapore MLA Dha Velu, when he was asked this week why the park project was delayed.

The park has been ina. bad state after state agencies built a drain right through the far east section of the park and the result was a park that looked as it is had been bombed.

Some months ago, the MLA brought a team of architects who prsented their designs for the park and asked walkers to take a look and debate the design.

The design had some fancy features like a few water fountains, food court and gondolas. This came in for criticism.

People said having food stalls would mess up the space. Others said water fountains ‘flop’ because they go dry quickly and such amenities are not repaired in time and fall into disuse.

The architects told Mylapore Times they were asked to work on a revised plan but this plan was not made public.

“We will make public the design plan this weekend,” assured the MLA.

Many park users say that if the trees and plants are conserved, walkways done well and maintained and lawns protected, this is more than enough for this park.
