Chennai Corporation contracted civic workers have been desilting drains the past week: this is to ensure that rainwater flows smoothly and uncleared muck does not cause any flooding.
If you have observed this activity, there are a few key actions you may take: 1. Ensure the drains all around are cleared well; a warm word with the staff here helps. 2. Nudge your local GCC unit officer / ward councillor to arrange for cleaning if this has not begun yet. 3. Ensure the silt bags are cleared off the pavement side after the clearance; else the muck will run back into the drain when it drizzles / rains.
