Have you gone out and taken a look if rainwater is running down the vents to the area’s storm water drains?
You may want to do this today because, the waste left on the streets in bursting fire crackers may well be clogging the vents and this leads to flooding when it rains.
Community activist Ganga Sridhar of Mandaveli says that her area’s community body worked alongside the civic workers the past days to ensure firecrackers and nature waste was removed where it blocked the vents.
“Such small preventive measures are imperative and must be done by residents for their streets,” said Ganga, sharing photos of the measures taken in Raja Street, Mandaveli.
Another pre monsoon mandatory activity is to clear the dead / fallen leaves and small debris blocking the vents in the terrace outlets and sunshades where water stagnates – these are ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Health department staff of GCC are going door to door and checking for water stagnation inside housing campuses and helping to clear possible water stagnation spots.
Plates under terrace garden pots, pots, tyres, tubs/buckets left in the open are water holders and water here must be emptied from time to time.
