The 80-plus kolus presented for the annual Mylapore Times Kolu Contest challenged the judge, who will remain anonymous.
“Some of them were so good that I felt more than 10 deserved prizes,” said the judge.
The kolus were mostly traditional, grand and gorgeous. Many families presented a large collection of well-maintained dolls aesthetically arranged not only on five or seven steps but spread over two or three such blocks of steps.

Vintage figures sat side by side with new dolls at many houses. Single as well as doll sets were grouped to present a variety of mythological and contemporary themes.
The theme sets included city parks, cricket matches, popular spots in Chennai and places of pilgrimage. Some families used coloured illumination, some designed large, intricate beautiful kolams for the kolu.

As a resident of Mylapore until 2002, I enjoyed all the golus that are featured here. It would be great if Mylapore times also invited entries from those living abroad, still having roots in Mylapore ( as in my case, my parent still lives there). Thank you!
Thanks for the suggest. Will consider; but how to ship prizes? They will cost a bomb!
