Which snacks are good? What is junk food? Students at Children’s Garden learn something useful at this event

What effect do sugary cool drinks have on your body?

What is junk food and why must we avoid such snacks?

These and a few other topics on health were discussed at the The Health Warrior Project, a Children’s Day activity held in mid-October at The Children’s Garden Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, under the banner of UNICEF.

The project was organised by Dr. N. Saraswathy.

The headmistress J. R. Lakshmi Kantham welcomed the chief guest, school correspondent Sakunthala Sharma and five speakers for the event –  Dr. D Uthira, Bharghavi, Uma Maheswari, Priya Prasad and Dr. Radha Balachandar.

They took turns to speak to the students on themes related to healthy lifestyle, effects of junk food, artificial colours, and sugary drinks.

A skit titled “Say No to Artificial Colours and Say Yes to Healthy Snacks” by the students highlighted the harm caused by junk food and coloured soft drinks.

The programme was co-ordinated by the school’s Health Club In-charge, Vidhya, Saraswathy and  Lalitha.
