SIR of electoral rolls: some confusion remains in data listed, sought

The Special Intensive Revision ( SIR)   of electoral rolls which is now going on across Tamil Nadu, has also been covering the Mylapore zone. In recent days, booth-level officers ( called BLOs) have been covering all the residences in streets and roads that fall under the booth which is where you cast your ballot in an election; they have been distributing forms to all those whose names are found in the electoral rolls.

Three sections in the form must be filled up and handed back to the BLOs who are asked to visit each house thrice. ( in cases where a house is locked, the officer gets back in days).

Data on each registered voter is available on the master list which is on the Election Commission’s website; if you access that data first it helps the BLO to easily fish out the SIR form that is meant for you ( each BLO handles a thousand plus forms). The data also helps you to fill in the SIR form.

Residents can use this link –  https://erolls.tn.gov.in/rollpdf/FINALROLL_EN_06012025.aspx – to download the updated list of voters at each polling booth in their respective constituency and use the data.

Hiccups and headaches remain.  Some BLOs are telling people that only the first section information in the form is needed now; rest is optional ( but the form does not say so). Some people are unsure how they will access data required to fill the latter sections in the form ( which seek data of voting in past elections, etc).

People are wondering what format the ECI uses while listing ‘house number’ when it comes to apartments. In some cases, only the flat number that is personally followed – example > T1 – is entered as house number. In another case, it is > 16-5 ( 16 being door number and 5 being the flat number).
