Today, December 26, marks the 21st anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami which killed many people, including people who were on the Marina seashore that morning.
This morning, a few members of fisherfolk in the Nochchikuppam zone off the Loop Road, joined Mylapore MLA and DMK cadres and the local area councillor Revathy, to carry milk in pots and empty the milk into the sea at the shore, as a symbolic prayer and offering that people be protected from calamities.
This ritual has been practiced by communities in different parts of the Marina shore every year, on this day.
