As 2025 draws to a close, a few Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs) across Mylapore are coming together to celebrate the year-end in an eco-conscious way.
In a collective effort to promote sustainability and responsible waste management, these RWAs are joining hands with EcoKonnectors Trust and SAAHAS Chennai to organise the ‘Waste on Wheels Waste Collection Drive’ on Sunday, December 28 at multiple pickup points in Mylapore zone.
This initiative offers residents an opportunity to declutter their homes – sending out less-used or unwanted items that can be used by the underprivileged, or responsibly recycled to reduce landfill burden.
The drive is being co-ordinated by EcoKonnectors Trust along with RWAs in the Mylapore area, including-RAPRA, RK NAGARRA, JERA, Raja Street and Poonga View communities.
They are supported by SAAHAS Chennai and by Societe Generale, who share their expertise in waste management and recycling.
Team SAAHAS has arranged a TATA Ace truck to cover approximately 10 pickup points across Mylapore.
The drive will begin on December 28 at Murugan Stores, R. A. Puram at 9 a.m. and conclude at Mandaveli Raja Street at 3:30 p.m.
This mobile collection allows for the convenience for residents across different neighbourhoods.
Residents are requested to segregate and pack items in bags before handing them over. These are the categories of goods which will be accepted: Old clothes (segregated as usable clothes that go to orphanages, and as rags/torn clothes to be used for recycling/upcycling).
E-waste, plastic waste (all types, including MLPs and thin plastics), paper, cardboard, slippers/footwear, glass bottles, metallic items, batteries and cables and used containers. To give away bulky items like mattresses/ glass you meed to inform the local area RWA in charge or Team EcoKonnectors to organise a separate vehicle for door collection.
