Few old trees inside Nageswara Rao Park chopped down. Civic workers say they were infested

A section of Nageswara Rao Park, off Luz Avenue now looks like a barren yard. This sight bothered people this Tuesday morning who were out on walks around the park.

Many old and tall trees which stood alongside the park’s wall on this side have vanished. A closer look revealed that they have been chopped down.

Civic workers engaged by the contractor in charge of the park renovation project said that since the trunks and root system of some trees were rotting and had been infested by insects and since they were weak, they were asked to chop them.

The loss of these trees and the major excavation work in the park has changed the familiar face of this popular park.

Said Parantharami Mani, who shared photos of the park area where the trees had been chopped, “We cannot be absolutely sure that the trees chopped down have all been infested. But the park is losing its verdant nature.”
