Over 200 alumni of Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls School attend annual Reunion

Over 200 alumni of Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls School, Mylapore attended the annual Reunion meet held in the school campus on Saturday, January 24.

They started to stream into the campus after 2 p.m. for the formal launch at 2.30 p.m.

Traditionally, the Reunion is held on January 26 but this time around, it was changed following suggestions from alumni that a weekend made it easy for many of them to attend the meet.

A member of the Old Students Union said that henceforth, the Reunion will be held on the fourth Saturday of January.

A practice at the Reunion, is to specially host batches which complete 50 and 25 years as alumni;  so this time, members of the golden jubilee batch of 1976 ( the two photos above show some members seen in the classrooms they used; and a group   photo ) and the silver jubilee batch of 2001 ( see photo below) were present in large numbers.

Another Reunion tradition has been to honour school teachers and staff retiring this year; and this was followed at the formal event attended by past headmistresses, teachers and staff.

Members of the 1991 batch chose blue as the colour of their group for this occasion and were seen dressed in blue saris or in blue salwar-kameez ( photo below)

The chief guest was Dr. S. Meera, former Head of the department of commerce at Chellammal College for Women.

Members of the1976 batch made a donation of Rs.1,50,000 to the school while the
2001 batch donated Rs. 50,000.

The meet ended with high tea.

Many ‘old girls’ visited classrooms which were once their familiar spaces and the open yards where they had chatted and met up as students; these were occasions to shoot selfies and group photos.
