Padma awards for Dr. K. R. Palaniswamy, Veezhinathan Kamakoti  and Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam

Three residents of the Mylapore zone have been chosen for the nation’s Padma awards.

They are Dr. K.R. Palaniswamy, Dr. Veezhinathan Kamakoti  and Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam.

Dr. K.R. Palaniswamy, a distinguished city-based gastroenterologist and head of the department at Apollo Hospitals, has been chosen for the Padma Bhushan award for his contributions to medicine. He is recognised for over four decades of service. He resides in CIT Colony. ( photo featured first)

The Padma Shri awards are for Dr. Veezhinathan Kamakoti  for science and engineering ( photo below) and Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam for performing arts.

Dr. Kamakoti is currently director of IIT – Madras and is a resident of CIT Colony.

Thiruvarur Bakthavathsalam  is a senior Carnatic music vidwan and a mridangam artiste and he resides just off The Music Academy. ( photo below)
