Skating rink opened in GCC park, Pattinapakkam. Register for paid coaching here

A skating rink has been formally opened to the public in Pattinapakkam.

Mylapore MLA, Dha Velu opened the facility which is located inside the GCC park in Pattinapakkam, off Loop Road, opposite the Tholkappia Poonga’s eastern zone. Local area councillor Amirda Varshini was at this event.

The facility will be managed privately by a sports body based in this area.  We are told that a trained coach is in charge and about six children have signed up for coaching here.

To take skating lessons, a child will need basic skaters, knee and ankle pads and a helmet. This gear costs between Rs.2,000 and Rs.5,000.

Children who want to train here will need to pay a fee, which goes to pay for the coach.

Coaching is offered in the morning and in the evening. Contact Nirmal – 8122143861

The skating rink managers said that the trees around the rink must be trimmed to allow park lights to light up the space and additional floodlights are needed to allow coaching to go on beyond 6.30 p.m. when the demand can be more in the weeks ahead.

The project was proposed in the GCC playground on South Canal Bank Road ( called Alphonsa ground), Mandavelipakkam but was held back after youths who play football here said the proposed skating rink space would eat into their playing zone.
