The 15th Tamil Nadu State Deaf Chess Championship – 2026, organised by the Tamil Nadu Sports Council of the Deaf (TNSCD) and hosted by The Association for the Deaf, Chennai, was conducted on January 25 at The Clarke School for the Deaf, Mylapore.
About 100 players from 10 districts across Tamil Nadu, competed in the sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.
Students of The Clarke School for the Deaf did well, securing top positions in their respective categories. Two of these students were selected to represent Tamil Nadu at the national-level Deaf Chess Championship played at Nagpur.
The chess event was graced by S. N. Srikanth, secretary, The Clarke School for Children with Special Needs – he was the Chief Guest. The championship was organised by Shobana of TNSCD, and A. Ponnuswamy, secretary of TNSCD. Office bearers from TNSCD and The Association for the Deaf also lent their hands.
Srikanth says that Clarke School has been providing chess coaching to students here through the Mylapore Chess Academy.
