Fish sales spike, so do prices as avian flu issue keeps people away from chicken

So why is the fish hawkers market on Marina Loop Road busy on weekday mornings now?

Because the avian flu prevalence is driving people away from chicken and eggs to play it safe since the advisory from the civic body went out after the outbreak last week. The advisory has also asked people not to consume half-boiled eggs or poorly cooked chicken and eggs.

Weekday mornings at the fish stalls on Marina Loop Road see standard sales.
Not now. Lots of people are here buying fish. Prices have even doubled, said a shopper here on Wednesday morning.

A hawker said sales are up because people are avoiding chicken and eggs. But this demand has encouraged hawkers to hike fish prices.
