The Mayana Kollai festival is said to be a pre-Vedic festival and is still practiced in a temple in Mylapore. At Sri Angala Parameswari Amman Temple on Sri Mundagakanni Amman Temple.

On Feb.17, the Amman was taken out in a grand procession through the main street. Some devotees sacrificed fowl for the occasion and danced. A few were seen dancing with goats on their shoulders.
A large number of people took part.

The procession ended in the graveyard of Mylapore, behind the offices of the DG of Police of TN, where a final ritual, symbolic of Mayana Kollai was held.
