Obituary; Sarrukai Srinivasa Thiruvenkatachari, Mylapore senior. Sports shamp and theatre artiste

Sarrukai Srinivasa Thiruvenkatachari, fondly known by friends as Chari alias Durairaj, passed away on January 1 in Mylapore. He was 92.

He resided in the Kesava Perumal Koil zone and in Luz Avenue in recent years. A man of multiple interests, Chari was an avid sportsperson in his college and employment days. He won regional and national championships in tennis and in table tennis.

He worked in the office of Controller of Defence Accounts in Chennai and was posted at various cities across India on deputation. He was also involved in Tamil theatre, in his office and outside and even directed some plays. His play ‘Aravan’ won several accolades.

He is survived by his children Booma, Srinivasagopalan, Jayashree, Balaji and Prasanna and their families.
