Members of Mahratta Education Fund, based in Alwarpet elebrated Gudi Padwa on Thursday, March 19 evebing at their premises on TTK Road. A celebrations of the new year by Maharastrians.
Sanskrit scholar Vasudev Rao performed “pooja” of the ” Gudi” (flag). He also read the almanac (panchangam) for the new year.
Once the formal event was over, members were served a special plate of snacks, traditionally Maharastrian. One drink was panak, made of jaggery, lemon juice and cardamom. The second was “Taak” akin to buttermilk, made with curry leaves, ginger, asafoetida and mountain salt.
Koshimbeer, made of a mix of soaked moong dal, coconut, lemon and cucumber.
The plate also had common snacks of the evening.
