Bharatanatyam artistes and teacher G. Narenda has been chosen for the prestigious Nritya Kalanidhi award given by The Music Academy annually.
He will be decorated with the award on the opening day of the dance festival of the Academy, Jan.2, 2027.
Narendra is a resident of CIT Colony; besides performing, he also teaches dance. In 2025, he was decorated with the Nritya Choodamani award by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. He is a Kalakshetra alumni.
This and other awards were announced on Sunday.
Veena artiste Jayanthi Kumaresh is chosen for the Sangita Kalanidhi award.
These and other awards are part of the Academy’s 100th conference and concerts to be held in mid December this year.

R. A. Puram based S. Rajeswari has been chosen for a new award of the Academy; dance musician award. She has sung for many senior dancers of the past and is best known for singing at well-known dancer Kamala’s at her concerts.
She has composed songs and is a music teacher and was also head of the TN Govt. Music College. She is also a Kalaimamani awardee, one of the earliest.
Another awardee-designate is Sugandha Kalamegham. She has been chosen for the Sangita Kala Acharya award.
A resident of Abiramapuram First Street, she is a senior vocalist and music teacher.
