Well-known Doordarshan newsreader Sudha Narayanan, a longtime resident of C. V. Raman Road, Alwarpet, passed away on February 28.
She had been a resident of Alwarpet, since her marriage to R. S. Narayanan in 1964. She completed her B.A. in English Literature from Miranda House, Delhi, an education that reflected her lifelong love of language, literature, and the arts.
Early in her career, she worked as a copywriter at Aries Advertising Agency in Gopalapuram, Chennai, for about 10 years. During this period, she was also associated with advertising campaigns and modelled for Solidaire, not Dyanora as is sometimes mistakenly recalled.
One well-known advertisement from that era featured popular television newsreaders, including Geetanjali Iyer, and highlighted the clarity of the television image by noting that even the eyelashes of the newsreader were visible on screen.
Although she never worked professionally as a designer, she possessed a strong aesthetic sensibility and was often consulted on matters of design, her family said. Among friends and colleagues, she was regarded as something of a design guru.
She is remembered by Smitha, Ram, Nikhil and Radhika.
