March 30 was celebrated as World Idli Day but there was very little buzz around idlis in Mylapore’s popular restaurants.
At Sangeetha in Mylapore, yes, idlis were cooked and served for the regular breakfast diners but they got exhausted quickly.
“We cooked limited numbers today becasuse of the arabathimoovar festival, ” said a restaurant staff, hinting to the scores of freely given food at stalls in the mada veedhis later that day.
At Ratna Cafe, idlis were off the menu by 10 a.m. No sign of celebrating the idli here.
The only place which was serving idlis past 10 a.m. was at Hotel Chaitra on P. S. Sivaswami Salai, a popular joint for Udupi styled food. A plate of two idlis at Rs.40 was still being ordered here.
