Sindhanai Sirpi Singaravelar Salai – this is the new name of Loop Road in San Thome.
The renaming event was among many which chief minister M. K. Stalin launched today, via video-conference.
The Mylapore MLA and local area councillor were present at the Marina spot where the new signboard set in a decorated tent was unveiled.
The road runs from the Light House point to the junction of Dr D G S Dinakaran – South Canal Bank – San Thome High Road, off Pattinapakkam.
A row of housing colonies, mainly inhabited by fisherfolk, line one side of this busy road, which takes the Adyar-bound traffic.
Singaravelar was a celebrated leader of the labour movement in the city, stood for rationalism and scientific temper and also stood for rights of fisherfolk.
