India’s first international woman billiards champion, Mylaporean Anupama Ramachandran, was recently in the news again. She was among the galaxy of people honoured with the World of Women (WoW) Award by The Hindu newspaper group.
Presented annually, WoW celebrates exceptional women achievers across various fields.
“I feel blessed to have received this award this year itself, almost immediately after winning the world title. Off the field recognition includes being invited to the Republic Day parade and Rashtrapati Bhavan in-house reception,” she said.
The Hindu, the award includes ya trophy and a specially-worded citation.
Anupama is now busy training for her next major tournament, which, she said, will hopefully be the WWS championship in China. “I’m looking forward to competing there,” she said.
