BJP, residents want liquor shops in Palakkuma Nagar removed

Community and political groups are protesting against the business and location of at least 3 TASMAC-run liquor shops in this area.

On Monday, the local unit of the BJP led by Vanathi Srinivasan held a demonstration in the Luz area seeking closure of two such shops in the Palakkuma Nagar, located behind the Luz Circle.

They said that while one shop existed here, a new one was opened recently and this has increased the stream of clients and caused problems for residents, irked women and also disturbs commuters who use the Thirumylai MRTS station when drunks hang out here after dark.

Elsewhere, people in the Mundakakanni Amman Temple area have also sought closure of the local TASMAC liquor shop – they say it also disturbs the peace of what is a residential area.

Sometime ago, local people and members of Lok Satta party staged demos to get the state to close the bars located in 2 floors of a building here. The pressure led to this closure.
