Painting holiday for artists

painting holidaySumitha Sundaram, a resident of Alwarpet, likes to paint. Sumitha is also an entrepreneur – she runs camping holidays for children. When she is out with the kids, she likes to paint outdoors. ‘It is an experience that I really enjoy. So I thought, other artists must like this too, why not bring them along?’.

So, she put together a holiday programme that aims to be relaxing and educational. Called ‘Art de Tour’, the programme is a painting holiday for artists. The aim is to enjoy nature and sketch and paint under the sky or trees. There is no formal learning session and no presence of celebrity artists. Each participant would be celebrating his/her talent amidst beautiful rural locales.

The first tour, in early 2015, took 25 artists to Yelagiri. Some were good at art, some only sketched with ballpens in their diaries, some were rekindling their old talent. But all of them enjoyed the trip.

Art deTour’s second season happened in late 2015 and back to Yelagiri. A beautiful lake, a pristine village pond fringed with quaint rural houses and being a Saturday all the village kids were out there swimming and playing the keen audience, all formed a beautiful backdrop for the pictures and for a relaxing weekend.
