Soon, Chennai Corporation is set to install ‘Smart Poles’ at Marina. Through this, people will be able to quickly report crimes happening against them to the police. Foundation for one such ‘smart pole’ has now been laid on the sand area opposite to the Gandhi statue.
This is being carried out as a part of Chennai Corporation’s Smart City Project.
Murugesan, the Assistant Executive Engineer of Zone 9 said, “The ‘smart poles’ will have an emergency call box, cameras and a distress button connected to the police central command center. People will be able to get instant help by pressing the distress button.”
It will be launched in a few weeks, he said.
