Church summertime Bible camp via Zoom. Kids loved it under Uncle Sam.

Even as the city was under lockdown 4.0, CSI St. Thomas English Church at San Thome, recently conducted its annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) online.

Yes, the community used Zoom and classes were held online from 18 to 23 May.

75 children in the age group of 5 to 16 years participated in the Virtual VBS themed ‘Boot Camp’, organized together with Scripture Union, Chennai.

Led by the vivacious Uncle Sam, the children enjoyed the fun activity online, which comprised of vibrant songs, Bible stories, interactive games and amazing art activity planned for each day. They also took part in a Biblical character costume charade and virtual love feast.

“Besides the children of our parish, kids from St. Thomas Tamil Church, St. Luke’s Church, Mandaveli, CSI House of Prayer, Adyar and other neighbouring churches also participated. It was even more exciting to have children from Coimbatore, Bangalore, Pune, Kerala, Dubai, Australia and the USA joining in,” says Sheeba Roshan, director of the Virtual VBS.

The final day’s programme was also held virtually on Sunday, May 24 with parents and parishioners logging in to catch a glimpse of the happy faces, displaying all they had learnt – from the safety of their homes.
