Chennai Corporation shelters 50 migrants at its community hall in C. P. Ramaswamy Road

Chennai Corporation continues to rescue and shelter migrants from across the city to its community hall in the neighbourhood.

In the past few days, it has rescued around 50 migrant workers from Central railway station. They have now been sheltered at its community hall at C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.

Said a Corporation’s staff who monitors this community hall, “A few days ago, we sent all migrant labourers, who were sheltered here since lockdown to their native places. But there are still hundreds of migrants at the Central station waiting for trains. So to help them with food and shelter, our team has sent some 50 here. They are all from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.”

“We continue to take all safety precautions to prevent the virus spread at the hall, ” he adds.
