Online book reading campaign of Tulika Books gets popular in social media

The online book reading campaign by Alwarpet based Tulika Books is becoming popular now.

Called ‘Many Languages… Many Voices… Many Stories…’, the campaign launched by Tulika and Apalam Chapalam, a multilingual video storytelling channel features actors, writers and poets reading Tulika’s popular books in multiple languages.

Recorded videos of these readings are posted on Tulika’s social media pages and its website.

For its latest session, Tulika has roped in actor Kalki Koechlin, actor Shriya Pilgaonkar, and actor-filmmaker Suhasini Maniratnam to present a poem titled ‘Go Away Coronavirus!’ by Divya Thomas.

While Kalki presents the poem in English, actors Suhasini and Shriya recite it in Tamizh and Hindi respectively. The videos of these actors have become a hit in social media now.

Says Aneesha of Tulika Books, “The poem talks to children about their safety, speaks to their fears and gets them to look at the bright side of this lockdown period.”

Tulika has been putting out these book readings since the beginning of the lockdown.

It has also come up with ‘Corona’ stories for children of all ages. Says Aneesha, “The first was ‘The Monster at the Window’, written by Meghaa Aggarwal (for children aged 5 and above), narrated online by internationally acclaimed storyteller Jeeva Raghunath.”

Their next book, she says is wacky science fiction (for children aged 8 and above) by writer Zai Whitaker. “It’s called Zyrus the Virus. It is slated to release as an e-book in June.”
