Festival sales: maghizham, parijathan, sampangi

Tomorrow being Ugadi ( celebration of Telugu and Kannada new year) and then, Thamizh new year, hawkers of flowers in the Sri Kapali Temple zone are selling today rare flowers like maghizham poo, parijatham and sampangi poo.

“These flowers are high in demand during festival times,” says Lalitha, a flower seller who claims to be in this trade for decades.

Sampangi and maghizham are selling at Rs.30 for a small garland, parijatham at Rs.20 for three and jasmine, which sold at Rs.10 earlier is double the rate today.
