Kalavathi Balakrishnan, aged 66 passed away on March 11. She had been a resident of Mylapore from 1948.
She was the youngest of seven sisters and one brother born to Gnanambar and K. Gopalakrishnan (formerly civil engineer in Gannon Dunkerly & Co). Her eyes were donated to a eye bank.
Her husband, G. N. Balakrishnan used to address her as ‘madam’ till her death, a family member said.
Balakrishnan is the brother of the late G. N. Balasubramaniam, more popularly known as GNB, the great Carnatic music vocalist.
She leaves behind her husband G. N. Balakrishnan, daughters Sudha and Anu and son Karthick.
