Mylaporeans among India’s great artistes honoured with Tagore award

On May 2 evening, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi decorated a group of about 30 great artistes of India with the specially designed Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna awards and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Puraskar awards.

The event was held at The Music Academy in the presence of the Tamil Nadu Governor, Dr. K. Rosaiah.

The Chennai event was held here in order make it convenient for South India based maestros to make it to this special ceremony.  Those honored  included a few Mylaporeans. This photo, taken after the event features dancer Vyjayanthimala Bali, mridangist Guruvayur Dorai, flutist N. Ramani and violinist M S Gopalakrishnan – all from this neighbourhood.
