Housing Board residents in Mandavelipakkam lose case

The residents of Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNBH) in Mandavelipakkam lost a legal case against the eviction notice issued by the TN Housing Board in the Madras High Court.

The tenements were built in 1963. They had become weak and hence the Board had decided to demolish them and build 50 flats at a project cost of Rs.11.8 crore.

Eviction notices have already been issued and the government accorded administrative sanction for the project on March 2012.

24 of this newly built flats will be allotted to the current tenants and the remaining 26 would be sold under a self – financing scheme for generating required funds for the construction.

The judge of the High Court stated that the tenants could give a request in writing seeking re-allotment of flats in the new complex to be built.
