Big group of Malaysian Bharatanatyam dancers here to improve their skills

Forty Bharatanatyam dancers from Malaysia are currently upping their skills in dance in the lobby of the Narada Gana Sabha auditorium in Alwarpet.

The guru who is guiding them is Alwarpet-based Roja Kannan.

The girls have been trained in the basics and flew in to gain more in nritta and abhinaya and are attending theory and practical lessons through the day. This is their first visit to Chennai.

On Sunday they perform at the R K Swamy Hall. Sundareswarar Street, Mylapore.

These dancers are sishyas of guru Nalini Rathakrishnan of Malaysia and the team will fly out Monday.

Roja says she is happy to conduct such classes for those who seek them out.

There is also a need for performing arts enthusiasts to offer packages to dancers from abroad, new to the city and in for the December season – to offer yoga, heritage tours, dance classes and chats with great gurus.
