Many stores have started preparing for Vinayaka Chaturthi well in advance. Vijaya Stores at North Mada Street has displayed an extensive collection of images and umbrellas.
The owner, A. S. Muthuvel says, “We have a large variety of Papier mache, Plaster of Paris and marble statues ranging from one inch ones to 2 feet tall idols priced from Rs. 100 to Rs. 2500.”
He also sells satin/velvet umbrellas and all the items necessary for the alankaram of the idol. This store is located on North Mada Street, Mylapore. Ph: 24642500.
In the days to come, more hawkers will display and sell Vinayaka idols in Mylapore, Mandaveli and in Bazaar Road.
