The Sri Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations in the area ran on two lines; in most places people stuck to tradition and in some, it was time for some fun and play especially among children.
Sales on images of the god peaked on Thursday evening but on Friday, as early as 6 a.m. there were scores of people shopping for fresh flowers for the pujas.
This was the scene alongside the Chitrakulam where small shops offers festival-driven goods.
In areas like R A Puram and interior Mandaveli, hawkers sold simple clay images of the lord and they sold well though prices have almost doubled now.
And at two temples, there were Carnatic music concerts in the evening and these will be held till Sunday.
