Indian Theological Association holds annual conference

INDIAN THEOLOGICAL ASSOCIATIONThe 37th annual meeting and conference of the Indian Theological Association (ITA) on the theme “Call for a new theology of culture – revisiting the mission praxes and paradigms” was held at Dhyana Ashram, R. A. Puram from Oct 23 – 26. The inaugural session started off with a meditative dance and prayer under the guidance of Fr. Sagaya Raj. Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy, Archbishop, Chennai inaugurated the conference with his talk on the need to put into pastoral practice the inculturisation initiatives in the Christian communities.

Fr. Anthony Kaliath highlighted the need to explore a new theology of culture for the local as well as the global church. Topics like the cultural implications for the ecological crisis, feminist profile for a relevant theology of culture, role of religion in the civil society, interplay between culture and religion and tribal cultural inputs for the emergence of an effective Christian theology were discussed. The theological insights were summed up by the drafting committee headed by Fr. Jacob Parapally.
